This summer in the midst of drought not seen by Texas in decades I noticed the leaves on one of my largest trees turning brown. I panicked a bit because I did not want to lose this sweet gum which I affectionately nicknamed “Gummy”. It provides good shade and looks nice in the yard. I scurried to water it plenty on a regular basis but over the next few months it only got worse until it was completely brown and certainly dead.
Since it was dead I had to do something because it would rot and eventually start to lose branches which would hit our roof directly beneath. This past weekend I got a company to cut it down. It was hard to bring myself to do it, honestly. Not only because I had some emotional attachment to this tree (stop laughing) and did not want to admit it was dead but because the cost to cut down large trees is absurd.
Anyway, I went forward it and here are the pictures. R.I.P. Gummy.

lol, when I read the title to this blog, I thought “oh! Kayla must have gotten her first tooth!!!”
So sad to lose such a great tree. We lost our magnolia about 6 months after we moved in but now I can barely remember what the house looked like with it. Time will heal your wound
Poor Gummy.
I thought the same thing as Kyra. Sorry about your tree…I didn’t laugh.
I’m sad too….But perhaps Gummy has made room to plant a fast growing shade tree. In 5 years Kayla will only be 6 years old and a tree that provides a little shade for a little girl would be perfect!
. Plant it now and they can grow together!
Boohooo, Jackson will miss you, Gummy
